Here is everything that I did with my Masters class for week 12 in cycle 2 of Classical Conversations!

CC Cycle 2 Week 12 Memory Work

I use tally marks to keep track of how many repetitions we have done in class so that is why there are tally marks next to the subjects.
CC Cycle 2 Week 12 Timeline
This week for timeline, I had my class play the game Scrambled Eggs.
Scrambled Eggs is a great game for the Masters class because the students typically review the material an extra time and are quick at it. I’ll explain more.
To play Scrambled Eggs, sing the timeline song and lay the cards out at random in front of one student.
Tell the student to memorize what cards are there, then tell them to turn around.
Once they are turned around, quickly grab a card and put it behind your back. Then, scramble the cards and place the remaining six cards out in front of the student.
Tell the student to turn back around and say which card is missing. The extra time each student gets practicing the memory work is when it is their turn as they often sing the portion of the timeline song in their heads to figure out what card is missing.
Repeat for each student.
Supplies needed to play Scrambled Eggs:
- 7 Timeline cards pertaining to the week
Approximate time it takes to play Scrambled Eggs: 5 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 12 Math
We are out of math equations! Yay!
For teaspoons, tablespoons, and 1 fluid ounce, we did a clap that looked like two quarter notes followed by three eighth notes. It went like this:
- “Teaspoons and Tablespoons”
- 2 quarter note claps and 3 eighth note claps (I had the students hit the top of their tables)
- Repeat steps 1 and 2
- “3 teaspoons equals 1 tablespoon, 2 tablespoons equals one fluid ounce”
Then, repeat the whole series for each repetition.
Here is the YouTube video that I referenced for this:
Supplies needed for Math: none
Approximate time it takes to do squats: 5 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 12 History
My class loves playing Hot or Cold for history so we have done it almost every week since I introduced it week 3.
To play Hot or Cold, listen to the history song one time all together.
Then, show the class the item you will be hiding.
This week, we hid a water bottle for the Battle of Waterloo.
Have one parent bring the chosen student outside into the hallway while the rest of the class chooses a place to hide the item.
Once hidden (tip – only give them 30 seconds so it’s not a big time suck), invite the student back in. Have the class sing the history song loudly if the student is close to finding the object and quietly if the student is farther from the object.
The student has six repetitions to find it. If they find it in time, they win, if not, the class wins. If the student finds it before six repetitions are over, have everyone sing or say the history song as fast as they can for the remaining repetitions.
Supplies needed to play Hot or Cold:
- object to hide – I used a water bottle
- timer – if students are likely to be indecisive on where to hide the object, set a 30 second timer
Approximate time it takes to play Hot or Cold: 5 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 12 Latin
I informed the class that a way to remember the future perfect tense is with the sentence:
On your future perfect birthday, you will get a bow and arrow.
I got the sentence from Joys of a CC Mom on YouTube. Here is the video I referenced:
Supplies needed for Latin: None
Approximate time needed for Latin: 3 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 12 Science
This week we kept science simple but I did add some hand motions.
For asteroids, we did the sign language a and showed our hand orbiting.
For meteoroids, we did the sign language m and had our hand fly from the bottom to the top at an arc.
For meteorites, we kept the m and had our hand fall straight down from the top to the bottom to show meteorites hitting earth.
For comets, we made the letter c with our hand and showed the arm as our tail. We had our hand fly through the air in an arc.
I got the hand motions from Stephanie Laughlin on YouTube here:
Supplies needed for science: None
Approximate time needed for science: 2 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 12 English
We continued our indefinite pronouns to the tune Here Comes Santa Claus.
I sang the song starting from last week and ending with our last pronoun this week.
Then, I invited the class to sing along with me for the rest of the six repetitions. I messed up a few times and the students were able to catch me and keep me on track so the song is pretty easy for them – a win!
I got the song from Bapento on YouTube:
Supplies needed for English: None
Approximate time needed for English – 3 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 12 Geography
I used the song by one of my favorite CC YouTubers, CC Happy Mom.
It is a longer song than what I would typically pick but it is informational and a fast beat.
Here is what we did to get our seven repetitions in:
- I read the components of Eastern European Seas
- I read and showed them the locations on my map
- I read and had them trace locations on their maps
- I had them show me the locations on their maps
- I introduced the song to the students
- We sang the song together
- I asked them review questions to either say the name in the question or have them tell me the name in the answer
Here are the review questions I asked for Eastern European Seas:
- What mountain range is between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea? (Caucasus)
- What sea is south of the Ural Mountains? (Aral Sea)
- Which sea looks like a backwards C? (White Sea)
- What ocean is the Barents Sea in? (Arctic)
Supplies needed for geography:
- dry erase map for each student
- dry erase marker for each student
- eraser for each student
Approximate time needed for geography: 5 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 12 Tin Whistle
This week we practiced our Christmas song and reviewed.
Here is the order we did tin whistle in:
- We warmed up by playing Mary Had a Little Lamb since the students know it well.
- We played our Christmas song and I helped students individually where they were getting caught up in the song. This mostly looked like us practicing our finger work in tough sections and getting the right octave and tempo.
- Played tin whistle relay – the first student played the first measure, the next played the second, and so on until we were done with the song.
- Played tin whistle Jeopardy with our remaining time.
Supplies needed for week 12 tin whistle:
- each student needs to bring their tin whistle and sheet music (give students a pencil to finger along if they forgot their whistle at home)
- Jeopardy set up on the whiteboard
I wish I could find where I got the Jeopardy but it came in a pack of tin whistle paperwork I downloaded from the CC forums I believe.
But basically, we did a mini Jeopardy with only three topics since we only had ten minutes left. The topics I did were Parts (for example, the hand on the top three finger holes), Dynamics (for example, the medium soft dynamic), and Notes (for example, the note on the third line of the staff).
CC Cycle 2 Week 12 Science
For science this week we created constellations on black pieces of paper with glow in the dark stars and glow in the dark square stickers.
Students picked out which constellation they wanted to create on their pieces of paper (each student could make up to four).
I also read the script from the Ezine.
The students got into this and spent time making their constellations look nice. I hope it means they will take their time when we study Great Artists next quarter!
CC Cycle 2 Week 12 Review

For review this week, we played Pie Face. I did this on the last day of the quarter last quarter, week 6, and the students loved it and wanted to play it every week. I told them we’d do it week 12 again.
If you haven’t played Pie Face, players spin to see how many clicks they have to rotate on a hand that may or may not fling whipped cream into their face.
The suspense really builds in my class so it is a lot of fun. Sometimes you will spin a 6 but not get whipped cream whereas sometimes you will spin a 1 and get whipped cream in the face.
I start with one question per play, skipping Timeline because we sing that while we clean up, and as we go along I start adding more questions if we need to hurry through. Today we were ahead of time for every section so we had plenty of time for one question per play.
Supplies needed for Pie Face:
- Pie Face game
- whipped cream
- lots of wet paper towels for the students and something to clean the table/game with – we played in the kitchen this week so it was easy to wash the game in the sink afterward and wipe down the counters
