Here is everything that I did with my Masters class for week 14 in cycle 2 of Classical Conversations!
Contents
CC Cycle 2 Week 14 Memory Work
CC Cycle 2 Week 14 Timeline

This week for timeline, I had my class shoot the timeline cards while we sang the timeline song.
It was a perfect week for this activity as we had 7 students in class – each student got to shoot one time while we sang the timeline song.
Supplies needed to play:
- 7 Timeline cards pertaining to the week
- Nerf gun and Nerf bullet
Approximate time it takes to play: 5 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 14 Math
This week for math we moved to the hallway because I wanted a long distance. You could go outside if you have warmer weather.
We sang a song and as we got to each definition, we did a different movement.
For centimeters, we walked on tip toes in little steps.
For inches, we took a regular step.
For feet, we did lounges.
For miles, we did leaps.
Here is the song that I used:
We did all seven repetitions this way but if your class is newer to the material, you may want to read the definitions first. Most of my class already knew it from previous years in CC.
Supplies needed for Math: None
Approximate time it takes: 5 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 14 History
My class loves playing Hot or Cold for history so we have done it almost every week since I introduced it week 3.
To play Hot or Cold, listen to the history song one time all together.
Then, show the class the item you will be hiding.
This week, we hid a King card from a deck of cards simply because our community was celebrating monarch day for timeline.
Have one parent bring the chosen student outside into the hallway while the rest of the class chooses a place to hide the item.
Once hidden (tip – only give them 30 seconds so it’s not a big time suck), invite the student back in. Have the class sing the history song loudly if the student is close to finding the object and quietly if the student is farther from the object.
The student has six repetitions to find it. If they find it in time, they win, if not, the class wins. If the student finds it before six repetitions are over, have everyone sing or say the history song as fast as they can for the remaining repetitions.
Supplies needed to play Hot or Cold:
- object to hide – I used a King card from a deck of cards
- timer – if students are likely to be indecisive on where to hide the object, set a 30 second timer
Approximate time it takes to play Hot or Cold: 5 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 14 Latin
Last week I had reminded the class that a way to remember the present tense is with the sentence:
You see a present under the Christmas tree and say “O” a PRESENT for me! And because it isn’t Christmas yet, your mom says “mus, tis, nt”.
I got the sentence from Joys of a CC Mom on YouTube. Here is the video I referenced:
To get the 7 repetitions in this week we simply sang the song twice (which accounted for six repetitions) while we put away our geography maps and then I read the definition.
Supplies needed for Latin: None
Approximate time needed for Latin: 3 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 14 Science

Unfortunately my son had a medical issue so I had to step out of class for part of memory work and thankfully a mom was able to step in and do the rest of it for me.
I don’t know what they ended up doing but my plan was to read the memory work, sing a song, and then have the students sing with me for the remaining repetitions.
The song I found goes to the song “Celebration” by Kool and the Gang.
Here is the YouTube video for the creator:
Supplies needed for science: None
Approximate time needed for science: 2 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 14 English
I was also out for this part of the memory work so I don’t know what they did but this is what I had planned.
I found a fun song on YouTube by the Home Video Variety Show which my own kids always love.
My plan was to first read the definition of an adverb and then introduce the song. We would complete repetitions 3-7 by all singing together.
Supplies needed for English: None
Approximate time needed for English – 3 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 14 Geography

This week I found a fun song by Melinda Bush that goes to the tune of Frosty The Snowman.
To get our repetitions in, this is what I did:
- I read the components of Baltic Europe Countries
- I read and had them trace the locations on their maps
- I said show me Estonia/Latvia/Lithuania/Poland/Belarus
- I introduced the song to them
- I had the class sing the song with me
- I said tell me the Baltic Europe Countries as they erased their maps
- I asked them review questions to either say the name in the question or have them tell me the name in the answer
Here are the review questions I asked for the Baltic Europe Countries:
- What sea is the Baltic European Countries on? (Baltic)
- What mountain range runs through Poland? (Carpathians)
- Which country is the top/middle/bottom of the sandwich? (Estonia/Latvia/Lithuania)
- What country eats the sandwich? Belarus
Supplies needed for geography:
- dry erase map for each student
- dry erase marker for each student
- eraser for each student
Approximate time needed for geography: 5 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 14 Great Artists

This week we learned about Thomas Gainsborough.
I used the print out that my director gave me which was by Johanna Spaulding.
I read the short bio quickly and we were all impressed by the fact that Thomas Gainsborough would sometimes paint with paintbrushes up to 6 ft long!
For the activity, the students completed the activity in Discovering Great Artists.
This activity felt a bit rushed as there were two layers of art going on – first, the painting of the landscape and, second, the drawing of the portrait.
Only one student in my class finished on time but the rest were still working on their portraits.
My advice would be to have the students do a quick landscape, then a quick portrait, and then go back and add details with any remaining time.
While it was a bit rushed, the students still seemed to enjoy this week’s art project.
Supplies needed for week 14 Great Artists:
- 2 pieces of paper per student, paint, paint brushes, pencils and/or colored pencils, scissors, and glue
CC Cycle 2 Week 14 Science
For science this week we did the cold feet experiment and the pepper run experiment.
I use the printouts from CC Connected that my director provided me from the Ezine.
Cold Feet Experiment
I decided to just do hands instead of feet to make it faster. The class as a whole thought of a hypothesis after I explained the steps of the experiment.
Each student was given a chance to do the experiment and collect their data silently.
We then shared what we observed and compared/contrasted our differences. We talked about why some people would experience different results than others.
We ended by reading the conclusion on the Ezine print out.
Pepper Run Experiment
The set up for this experiment was the same for the first one. I read the prompt questions for the “question” and “research” part of the scientific method.
I then explained the experiment and we created a hypothesis together.
Each student had their own cup of water to which they poured pepper into. They each took a toothpick with dish soap to break the water tension.
We discussed our individual findings together, going over any differences. I then read the conclusion.
CC Cycle 2 Week 14 Review

For review this week, we played Kings Corner.
Our community had a monarch day where we dressed up as kings and queens since the timeline song includes the monarch era.
So, I figured this would be an easy way to incorporate our dress up day with review.
This is a simple game to both play and set up which is great on days you need something easy.
Also, it was really easy to get through all of review as I didn’t have to wait on anyone to perform an action before asking questions. I simply just powered through with the questions and whosever turn it wasn’t would answer the questions.
To play Kings Corner, you will want two decks of cards, as the max per game is 4 people. I had 7 in class today so we did one game with 4 students and another with 3.
Kings Corner is a type of Solitaire game. Here are the official rules to check out if you haven’t played before!
The Master’s class did well with this but I would skip for the younger classes as card games are typically newer for those ages.
Supplies needed for Kings Corner:
- Two decks of cards
