Here is everything that I did with my Masters class for week 11 in cycle 2 of Classical Conversations!

CC Cycle 2 Week 11 Memory Work
CC Cycle 2 Week 11 Timeline
This week for timeline, I had my class play the game Before or After.
Before or After is a great game for the Masters class because it tests their knowledge of the timeline order rather than just singing through the timeline.
That being said, the game is not too advanced for even the Abecedarians to play.
To play Before or After, sing the timeline song and pick one of the week’s cards at random. This first card is the reference card. Sing the song for the 2nd time, then pick another card at random. Ask the class, “does {this card – say the actual name of the event} come before or after the {reference card – say the name of the event}?” Direct the students to move to your right if the card comes before and to move to your left if the card comes after.
Listen to the song for the 3rd time and see if students were correct. Draw a new card and the second card you drew is the new reference card. Keep repeating this pattern until you have sang the song seven times for your seven repetitions.
Supplies needed to play Before or After:
- 7 Timeline cards pertaining to the week
Approximate time it takes to play Before or After: 5 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 11 Math
This week, we did box jumps as we did our cubes.
This game works best for a class of seven students or less. If you have eight students, you’ll need to decide if one person is left out or if you have time to include an 8th round.
If you have less than seven students, do one for each student and then add parents/tutor into the mix so you can do the tables 7 times.
Jumps are great for every class level if you don’t have a masters class!
I do box jumps this way:
- first student picks one or two equations to have me circle
- we recite the equations and when we get to an equation that is circled, we all do a jump
- second person picks one or two equations to have me circle
- we recite the equations and do jumps on all the circled ones
- continue this pattern – you will have most if not all of the equations circled so you will get a quick workout in!
Supplies needed for box jumps:
- dry erase marker (if paper is in protective sheet) to circle math equation
Approximate time it takes to do squats: 5 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 11 History
My class loves playing Hot or Cold for history so we have done it almost every week since I introduced it week 3.
To play Hot or Cold, listen to the history song one time all together.
Then, show the class the item you will be hiding.
This week, we hid a Lego head since we discussed the aristocrats’ heads being removed by the guillotine.

Have one parent bring the chosen student outside into the hallway while the rest of the class chooses a place to hide the item.
Once hidden (tip – only give them 30 seconds so it’s not a big time suck), invite the student back in. Have the class sing the history song loudly if the student is close to finding the object and quietly if the student is farther from the object.
The student has six repetitions to find it. If they find it in time, they win, if not, the class wins. If the student finds it before six repetitions are over, have everyone sing or say the history song as fast as they can for the remaining repetitions.
Supplies needed to play Hot or Cold:
- object to hide – I used a Lego head
- timer – if students are likely to be indecisive on where to hide the object, set a 30 second timer
Approximate time it takes to play Hot or Cold: 5 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 11 Latin
I informed the class that a way to remember the future perfect tense is with the sentence:
On your future perfect birthday, you will get a bow and arrow.
I had a birthday cake cookie cutter that I gave to one student at a time. We pretended to sing Happy Birthday (but really sang the future perfect tense to the tune of Happy Birthday) to the student.

Then, we passed the cookie cutter to the next person and repeated.
I got the sentence from Joys of a CC Mom on YouTube. Here is the video I referenced:
Supplies needed for Latin: birthday themed object – I used a cake cookie cutter but you could use a balloon, party hat, color a birthday picture, write “it’s your birthday” on a piece of paper, etc.
Approximate time needed for Latin: 3 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 11 Science
This week we sang a song by Joys of a CC Mom together but I added a part.
Since the song doesn’t say, “the phase of the moon are,” I decided to do a duet with the class. I sang, “What are the phases of the moon?”
And then the class responded in a low voice, “the phases of the moon are.”
And then we all sang new, crescent, quarter, gibbous, full.
We did this five times, the first repetition was me reading the words and the second was me explaining the duet.
Supplies needed for science: None
Approximate time needed for science: 3 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 11 English
We are done with the chicken dance! To introduce indefinite pronouns I used the tune Here Comes Santa Claus.
The first repetition I read the words and then for six repetitions we sang the song.
I got the song from Bapento on YouTube:
Supplies needed for English: none
Approximate time needed for English – 2 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 11 Geography
I used the song by one of my favorite CC YouTubers, Julie Keller. The tune is to The Wheels on the Bus.
I really liked her song because she sang the song as capital-country, capital-country, “and Siberia.” It made it easier to remember which capital goes with which country.
Here is what we did to get our seven repetitions in:
- I read the components of Europe and Asia
- I read and showed them the locations on my map
- I read and had them trace locations on their maps
- I introduced the song
- We sang the song together and pointed to the locations
- We sang the song together and erased the locations
- I asked them review questions to either say the name in the question or have them tell me the name in the answer
Here are the review questions I asked for Europe and Asia:
- Which mountain range divides Russia and Siberia? (Ural)
- Is Ukraine in Europe or Asia? (Europe)
- Is Moscow or Kiev closer to the Carpathian Mountains? (Kiev)

Supplies needed for geography:
- dry erase map for each student
- dry erase marker for each student
- eraser for each student
Approximate time needed for geography: 5 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 11 Tin Whistle
This week I introduced the names of the notes to the class. We discussed the FACE acronym and EGBDF acronym.
EGBDF: When a note is on the line, Every Good Boy Does Fine
FACE: When a note is on a space, it spells the word FACE
Here is the order we did tin whistle in:
- Introduced FACE and EGBDF according to the CC Foundations guide.
- Reviewed sharp symbols and meanings which I had introduced in previous weeks.
- Ask students to play the D scale.
- Play Mary Had a Little Lamb on the tin whistle together.
- Play our Christmas song together for the rest of the session.
Supplies needed for week 11 tin whistle:
- each student needs to bring their tin whistle (give students a pencil to finger along if they forgot their whistle at home)
CC Cycle 2 Week 11 Science
For science this week we actually did a moon project in our own community, as we did week 11’s science activity during week 8.
But, for week 11, that we did week 8, I used the script in the Sandbox Ezine.
By the way, we did the Oreo-carve-a-moon activity during science to go along with our memory work so that was really fun.
CC Cycle 2 Week 11 Review

For review this week, we played Turkey Shoot. Thanksgiving is this week so I thought it was a perfect opportunity to bring out the nerf gun.
Basically, my daughter and I colored “disguise a turkey” coloring pages last week. I then laminated them and cut them out.
I used a dry erase marker to write the subject on the turkey.
To play, tape the turkeys up on a wall and have members take turns shooting the turkeys with a nerf gun.
Once one subject gets all 7 weeks of review in, simply remove the turkey from the wall.
This review game went quickly and if we didn’t have to stop partway to take class photos, we probably would have gotten through all of the memory work.
Supplies needed for Turkey Shoot:
- 7 paper turkeys (print, sketch, use construction paper, etc.)
- tape to tape the turkeys on the wall
- nerf gun and darts
