Classical Conversations CC Cycle 2 Week 15 Tutor Plans

Here is everything that I planned to do with my Masters class for week 15 in cycle 2 of Classical Conversations!

I was actually out with sick kids this week but I had my sub follow these plans. She may have done something different which is totally okay too!

CC Cycle 2 Week 15 Memory Work

CC Cycle 2 Week 15 Timeline

This week for timeline, I had my class shoot the timeline cards again while we sang the timeline song.

I already had the Nerf gun in my bag so it made it easy to drop off for my sub. Plus, the kids really liked it last week and I doubt they would get tired of doing it since they only get to shoot once each last week.

Supplies needed to play:

  • 7 Timeline cards pertaining to the week
  • Nerf gun and Nerf bullet

Approximate time it takes to play: 5 minutes

CC Cycle 2 Week 15 Math

This week for math was really fun as I found a song to the tune of the Macarena.

Here is the video to the song:

I would have loved to do this one with the class but hopefully my sub had a fun time with it!

I planned to first introduce the song, as most of my class already knew it from previous years in CC. Then, add in the dance movements for the remaining six repetitions.

Supplies needed for Math: None

Approximate time it takes: 5 minutes

CC Cycle 2 Week 15 History

cc cycle 2 week 15 tutor plans history

My class loves playing Hot or Cold for history so we have done it almost every week since I introduced it week 3.

To play Hot or Cold, listen to the history song one time all together.

Then, show the class the item you will be hiding.

This week, we hid a flag toothpick to represent the United States entering the war in 1917.

Have one parent bring the chosen student outside into the hallway while the rest of the class chooses a place to hide the item.

Once hidden (tip – only give them 30 seconds so it’s not a big time suck), invite the student back in. Have the class sing the history song loudly if the student is close to finding the object and quietly if the student is farther from the object.

The student has six repetitions to find it. If they find it in time, they win, if not, the class wins. If the student finds it before six repetitions are over, have everyone sing or say the history song as fast as they can for the remaining repetitions.

Supplies needed to play Hot or Cold

  • object to hide – I used a flag toothpick
  • timer – if students are likely to be indecisive on where to hide the object, set a 30 second timer

Approximate time it takes to play Hot or Cold: 5 minutes

CC Cycle 2 Week 15 Latin

I reminded the class that a way to remember the present tense is with the question/answer:

What makes things imperfect? A Bomb.

I got the sentence idea from Joys of a CC Mom on YouTube. Here is the video I referenced:

To get the 7 repetitions in this week we simply sang the song twice (which accounted for six repetitions) and then I read the definition.

A tip I have for the second half of the year Latin is to sing during a transition to another subject. For example, do geography before Latin and then sing Latin while passing in maps.

Supplies needed for Latin: None

Approximate time needed for Latin: 1 minute

CC Cycle 2 Week 15 Science

Science was super quick this week with only two forms of energy in the memory work. For class, we had students run for kinetic and prepare for a run (but stand still) for potential.

You can also prepare for a kick (potential) by lifting your leg behind you then kicking through (kinetic) and many other about-to-move ideas.

Supplies needed for science: None

Approximate time needed for science: 2 minutes

CC Cycle 2 Week 15 English

I found some fun hand motions by Joys of a CC Mom on YouTube.

I don’t do hand motions that often with my Masters class but I believe they are so helpful.

To get in the 7 repetitions, I read the four purposes of sentences and then introduced the hand motions. My class is pretty good at joining in with hand motions and/or songs before I even ask them to which has made my job easier.

Supplies needed for English: None

Approximate time needed for English – 3 minutes

CC Cycle 2 Week 15 Geography

This week I found a fun song by Home Video Variety Show on YouTube.

To get our repetitions in, this is what I did:

  1. I read the components of The Levant
  2. I read and had them trace the locations on their maps
  3. I said show me Turkey/Cyprus/Syria/Iraq/Iran
  4. I introduced the song to them
  5. I had the class sing the song with me
  6. I said tell me The Levant Countries as they erased their maps
  7. I asked them review questions to either say the name in the question or have them tell me the name in the answer

Here are the review questions I asked for the Levant Countries:

  1. Cyprus sits in which sea? (Mediterranean)
  2. What continent is Turkey, Cyprus, Syria, Iraq, and Iran in? (Asia) – I liked this question because I drew the map on the Europe CC Cycle 2 map for the close-up view but wanted to make sure students knew they were actually in Asia.

These maps are great by CarolynJBaltazar on CC Connected

Supplies needed for geography:

  • dry erase map for each student
  • dry erase marker for each student
  • eraser for each student

Approximate time needed for geography: 5 minutes

CC Cycle 2 Week 15 Great Artists

This week we learned about Edgar Degas.

I used the print out that my director gave me which was by Johanna Spaulding.

I read the short bio quickly and then our community met in the sanctuary at our church building to do art together.

For the activity, the students completed the activity in Discovering Great Artists.

Remember to have your students bring a paint smock or play shirt for this quarter of CC!

Supplies needed for week 14 Great Artists:

  • Cotton cloth with a rough weave, milk, colored pastel chalks, scrap paper, old newspaper, aluminum foil, and an iron

CC Cycle 2 Week 15 Science Experiment

For science this week we did the bottle organ experiment in the Van Cleeve book.

I use the printouts from CC Connected that my director provided me from the Ezine.

Bottle Organ Experiment

I like to start by reading the intro on the Ezine print out and then asking some or all of the questions in the Question and Research sections of the print out.

I then explain what the experiment will be (without actually doing it) and ask the students what their hypothesis is. Sometimes the class all agrees on one hypothesis and other times we have multiple hypotheses.

I have the students collect their data (usually just with their senses and not writing anything down) during the experiment and then I ask students to share what they observed during the Analysis portion of the script.

We ended by reading the conclusion on the Ezine print out.

CC Cycle 2 Week 15 Review

cc cycle 2 week 13 tutor plans review games masters

For review this week, we played Gab or Guts.

This is a simple game to both play and set up which is great on days you need something easy.

Plus, the kids really enjoy this game.

Gab or Guts is a play on Truth or Dare. I got this game from Teachers Pay Teachers.

I took out a few of the cards that didn’t seem appropriate for my Master’s class but overall everything is pretty clean and safe!
