Here is everything that I did with my Masters class for week 7 in cycle 2 of Classical Conversations!

CC Cycle 2 Week 7 Memory Work
CC Cycle 2 Week 7 Timeline
This week for timeline, I had my class play the game Timeline Shuffle.
Timeline Shuffle is a great game for the Masters class because it moves fast and it’s best if your class can read – so not the best for Abecedarians.
To play Timeline Shuffle, have students sit in a circle and then pass out one timeline card per student. If you have less than 7 students in your class, students can challenge themselves with more than one card or parents/tutor can play.
If you have 8 students, one student won’t get a card initially but everyone will get to play.
Sing the song one time through and have your students hold up their card when it gets to that part in the timeline song.
Then you, the tutor, will roll a die. Whatever number it lands on, students will pass their cards to the right that amount. Sing the song again, having students hold up their new cards at the respective time.
Repeat the game so that students are singing for all 7 repetitions.
Supplies needed to play Timeline Shuffle:
- 7 Timeline cards pertaining to the week
- 1 Die
Approximate time it takes to play Timeline Shuffle: 4 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 7 Math

Yay for only one times table this week! Since I have the Masters class we say the entire equation.
This week, we did box jumps as we said the times tables.
This game works best for a class of seven students or less. If you have eight students, you’ll need to decide if one person is left out or if you have time to include an 8th round.
If you have less than seven students, do one for each student and then add parents/tutor into the mix so you can do the tables 7 times.
Box jumps are great for every class level if you don’t have a masters class!
I do box jumps this way:
- first student picks one or two equations to have me circle
- we recite the equations and when we get to an equation that is circled, we all do a jump
- second person picks one or two equations to have me circle
- we recite the equations and do jumps on all the circled ones
- continue this pattern – you will have most if not all of the equations circled so you will get a nice workout in!
I have a class of all boys so some of them go the extra mile and do burpees! I stick with the jumps!
Supplies needed for box jumps:
- dry erase marker (if paper is in protective sheet) to circle math equation
Approximate time it takes to do squats: 5 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 7 History
My class loves playing Hot or Cold for history so we have done it every week since I introduced it week 3.
I assume we will do it until at least everyone in my class has had a chance to be the finder.
To play Hot or Cold, listen to the history song one time all together. Then, show the class the item you will be hiding.
This week, we hid a whistle since the CC history song intro has a whistle sound.
Have one parent bring the chosen student outside into the hallway while the rest of the class chooses a place to hide the item.
Once hidden (tip – only give them 30 seconds so it’s not a big time suck), invite the student back in. Have the class sing the history song loudly if the student is close to finding the object and quietly if the student is farther from the object.
The student has six repetitions to find it. If they find it in time, they win, if not, the class wins. If the student finds in before six repetitions are over, have everyone sing or say the history song as fast as they can for the remaining repetitions.
Supplies needed to play Hot or Cold:
- object to hide – I used a whistle this week
- timer – if students are likely to be indecisive on where to hide the object, set a 30 second timer
Approximate time it takes to play Hot or Cold: 5 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 7 Latin
I informed the class that a way to remember the perfect tense is with the sentence:
The farmer in the dell had a perfect day so he said “ee!”
We then sang the CC Latin song quickly seven times through, which starts with the Latin conjugation ending “i” which is pronounced “ee.”
The CC Latin song goes along to the tune of The Farmer in the Dell.
I got this idea from Joys of a CC Mom on YouTube. Here is the video I referenced:
Supplies needed for Latin: None
Approximate time needed for Latin: 2 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 7 Science
This week was a fun song for six forms of pollution. I found the song and hand motions from Wendy Westerfield on YouTube.
Here is the order I presented science to get all seven repetitions in:
- Read the question and say the answer, making sure to say “Six forms of pollution are…”
- Read the question and have the class answer
- Introduce the song to the class
- Sing the song with the class
- Introduce the hand motions to the class
- Practice hand motions with the class
- Sing and do hand motions together
My class enjoyed the song and the hand motions as it goes to the tune of Sally the Camel.
Supplies needed for science: None
Approximate time needed for science: 4 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 7 English
We are still singing along to the Chicken Dance song on YouTube. I first read the material to the class, then had the class read with me. For the remaining five times through, we sang the song to the Chicken Dance.
Here is the Chicken Dance video I like because it goes into week 10! Yay for not having to search for a new video all those weeks.
Supplies needed for English: none
Approximate time needed for English – 3 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 7 Geography
Here is what we did to get our seven repetitions in:
- I read the components of the European Peninsulas
- I read and then showed them on my map the locations
- I read and had them mark it on their maps
- I introduced the song
- We sang the song together and pointed to the locations
- We sang the song together and erased the locations
- I asked them review questions to either say the name in the question or have them tell me the name in the answer
Here are the questions I asked for week 8 geography:
- What body of water is the Balkan Peninsula on? (Mediterranean Sea)
- What peninsula has the North Sea and Baltic Sea around it? (Scandinavian Peninsula)
- What peninsula is west of the Adriatic Sea? (Apennine Peninsula)
- What peninsula has Spain and Portugal? (Iberian Peninsula)
I like to ask review questions for the Masters class, and, since we studied European waters week 2 and Western European Countries week 3, I incorporated those into the questions.
Here is the YouTube video by Teacher Mama for the song we sang:
Supplies needed for geography:
- dry erase map for each student
- dry erase marker for each student
- eraser for each student
Approximate time needed for geography: 4 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 7 Tin Whistle
While I have the masters class this year, half of the class is new to CC/homeschooling altogether. So, I made sure to take things slow.
We first sang Mary Had a Little Lamb and I made sure to say, “one, two, ready, sing” to get everyone at the same starting time.
We talked about how voice was the first instrument invented and I asked “what did we have to do to make a song?” Answers ranged from – sing at the same speed, start/stop together, etc.
I then showed the class my tin whistle while I introduced the parts of the tin whistle. I introduced the definitions for each part too:
- Barrel – long, conical metal section
- Finger holes – 6 holes in the barrel for playing notes
- Mouthpiece – plastic piece at the top
- Fipple – share edge on the mouthpiece hole
Again, half of my class knew this already so we quickly launched into singing the parts of the tin whistle song.
I introduced the rest position – mouthpiece on the chin – and I introduced the note D.
I wanted to start with D because, in my opinion, it is the hardest note and I wanted to see where the class was at. We played the note together and seeing that there were some struggles, I had each student play alone and I addressed the issues.
I encouraged everyone to practice Mary Had a Little Lamb at home and then we drew our tin whistle and labeled the parts. Although we are out of our drawing unit, I reminded them to check for OiLs!
Supplies needed for week 7 tin whistle:
- each student needs to bring their tin whistle (give students a pencil to finger along if they forgot their whistle at home)
- paper and pencil for each student to draw and label their tin whistle
CC Cycle 2 Week 7 Science
For science this week we did sun prints and the script in the Sandbox Ezine. Word of note – make sure to put the paper blue-side-up!
CC Cycle 2 Week 7 Review

Since Halloween is during week 7, but I don’t know how many families celebrate, I decided to do a review game that involved spiders.
I figured this was a good compromise for those who celebrate Halloween and those that just know it’s spider season. (Yucky!)
I picked up 7 small black baskets/bowls from the Dollar Tree and printed signs for each subject. I put the signs in the bowls and then I added some webbing I got from the Dollar Tree as well.
The webbing didn’t hold up well during the game but no one seemed to mind.
I also picked up spider rings from the Dollar Tree.
Each student had a spider ring (actually they all wanted more than one which was fine because there were plenty) and they lined up taking turns throwing spiders into the basket webs.
Whatever subject they landed in we would review.
Once a subject had all 7 weeks of review said, we would pull the basket from the group.
Supplies needed for spider web baskets:
- 7 small baskets or bowls labeled with each subject
- spider webbing – optional, but set the vibe
- spider rings – one for each student
