Here is everything that I did with my Masters class for week 21 in cycle 2 of Classical Conversations!

CC Cycle 2 Week 21 Memory Work
CC Cycle 2 Week 21 Timeline
This week for timeline, I had my class unscramble a word.
They need to unscramble the word before we get all 7 repetitions (or all 7 cards) flipped over.
I pick a seven letter word from the new grammar and put one of each letter on the back of a card. Make sure to scramble the letters before taping them to the back of the cards.
This week’s word was clauses from our English grammar.
To play:
- Sing the timeline song for the week one time through.
- Have a student pick a timeline card to flip over and reveal a letter.
- Sing the timeline song again once through and have a student flip over another card to reveal a letter.
- Repeat for all timeline cards.
- In order for the class to win, they need to unscramble the word before the 7th repetition is over and the card is flipped. Otherwise, the tutor wins.

If you have 8 students, you can play an additional round where they just need to unscramble the word before you are done singing the timeline song for the 8th time. All the letters are revealed at this point but it is still hard to unscramble the word.
If you have less than 7 students, have the parents and/or the yourself as the tutor pick cards.
This is a great game for the Masters class since they know the timeline song already and can read/spell words.
The younger classes would likely need to skip this one, especially the Abecedarians.
Supplies needed for Timeline:
- 7 Timeline cards pertaining to the week
- 7 pieces of paper/tape to write each letter on the back of a card
Approximate time it takes for Timeline: 5 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 21 Math
This week for math was the beginning of a song that will take students through the rest of the year in math.
Here is the video to the song:
Since this week has a lot of “parts” I decided to have the students arrange themselves in order of the laws.
To do this, write out the equation so that there are 8 (or however many students are in your class) parts.
For example, in a class of 8 for the addition law, you could break it up as:
- (a
- +b)
- +c
- =
- a
- +
- (b
- +c)

If you end up having kids out that day, simply give a student two cards that are next to each other.
I had the cards in order and then passed them out randomly to the kids. Also, be sure to separate your cards for the addition and multiplication laws.
This is what I did to get our 7 repetitions in:
- Read the laws
- Introduce the song
- Sing all together
- Sing all together
- Sing all together
- Sing all together
- Arrange themselves with the cards & have the students read their part
Supplies needed for Math:
- 16 pieces of paper with equation parts written on them – 8 (or less if you have less students in your class) for the addition law and 8 (or less) for the multiplication law
Approximate time it takes: 5 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 20 History
My class loves playing Hot or Cold for history so we have done it almost every week since I introduced it week 3.
To play Hot or Cold, listen to the history song one time all together.
Then, show the class the item you will be hiding.
This week, we hid a VHS tape from the 80s “In the 1980s…”. I don’t have many to choose from at home but a PG one I had on hand was Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Have one parent bring the chosen student outside into the hallway while the rest of the class chooses a place to hide the item.
Once hidden (tip – only give them 30 seconds so it’s not a big time suck), invite the student back in. Have the class sing the history song loudly if the student is close to finding the object and quietly if the student is farther from the object.
The student has six repetitions to find it. If they find it in time, they win, if not, the class wins. If the student finds it before six repetitions are over, have everyone sing or say the history song as fast as they can for the remaining repetitions.
Supplies needed to play Hot or Cold:
- object to hide – I used a VHS tape from the 80s
- timer – if students are likely to be indecisive on where to hide the object, set a 30 second timer (or just count out loud to 30)
Approximate time it takes to play Hot or Cold: 5 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 20 Latin
I reminded the class that a way to remember the perfect tense is with the sentence:
London bridge is falling down because the engineers couldn’t make the bridge pluperfect. Daffy Duck gasps for air as the bridge falls.
I got the sentence idea from Joys of a CC Mom on YouTube. I added in Daffy Duck because pluperfect sounds like Daffy Duck trying to say the word perfect.
Here is the video I referenced:
This week we simply sang through the song 7x since we have already learned the pluperfect tense earlier in the year.
Supplies needed for Latin: None
Approximate time needed for Latin: 2 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 21 Science
I found this song by Joys of a CC Mom on YouTube for weeks 19-21 science.
The tune goes along to the tune of John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt.
Here is the YouTube video:
This week we all moved/shook our bodies quickly and then slower with each repetition.
This was to symbolize how we won’t get to zero movement for absolute zero temperature and it got the kids moving.
Supplies needed for science:
- None
Approximate time needed for science: 5 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 21 English
This week I found a catchy video on YouTube by Wendy Westerfield that covers weeks 21 and 22. She has a lot of fun English grammar videos.
This song is to the tune of When the Saints Go Marching.
Here is the song:
Since we are connecting words, I had the class link arms with a student next to them with each repetition.
So we’d sing the song, and student #1 would link arms with student #2. Then sing again and #2 would link with #3 and so forth.
My class decided to also march around the room as they did this.
If you have a smaller class, you can have them continue singing the song as they are linked together marching for the remaining repetitions.
Supplies needed for English:
- None
Approximate time needed for English – 3 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 21 Geography
This week I found a catchy song by CC Happy Mom on YouTube. This song gets stuck in my head so it’s obviously working as it should!
Here is the video:
To get our repetitions in, this is what I did:
- I read the components of the Central America
- I read and had them trace the locations on their maps
- I introduced the song to them
- I had the class sing the song with me as we pointed to the countries for repetitions 4, 5, and 6
- Singing all together
- Singing all together
- Questions
Here are the review questions I asked for Central America:
- Which Central American country is closest to the Treaty of Tordesillas? Nicaragua
- Is El Salvador or Honduras closer to Cuba? (Honduras)
- Which ocean borders Belize? (Atlantic)
- Guatemala‘s “trap door” goes to which ocean? (Pacific)
Supplies needed for geography:
- dry erase map for each student
- dry erase marker for each student
- eraser for each student
Approximate time needed for geography: 6 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 21 Composers & Orchestra
This week was very simple again. I brought in my Classical Music for Dummies book to read one of the bios from the book about Brahms. I didn’t read the whole section, just chose what seemed appropriate.
I had the class lay down on the floor in a dark room for the first repetition. Everyone was great about spreading out – I have a large classroom which helps – so this alone aided in having a quiet and focused classroom.
I also bring in my bluetooth speaker.
Before the second repetition, I walked the class through the timeline showing when instruments were introduced in the song.
When we listened the second time through, I told them beforehand to try to follow along themselves and see if they can correctly guess when everything is happening (but to themselves to foster a quiet atmosphere).
You can find the songs for this unit at the Classical Music for Dummies website. I recommend downloading them to your phone’s files rather than trying to connect to WiFi or use your data at your CC facility.
Supplies needed for Composers:
- bluetooth speaker – optional, but great for larger rooms
- Classical Music for Dummies book (to create a quick intro)
- Classical Music for Dummies songs (# 5) downloaded to your phone
CC Cycle 2 Week 21 Science Experiment
For science this week we made towers!
This was a fun science project.
I used the Ezine print out as my prompt and had the class make towers. I did not expect them to get so high – I had to measure them from the ceiling rather than the floor!
Supplies needed for science:
- lots and lots of straws
- lots and lots of tape
CC Cycle 2 Week 21 Review
For review this week, I decided to “extend” the science time again. I do make sure to read the Ezine conclusion before moving onto science to keep science the crisp 30 minute component.
Review was super quick, as I simply asked them questions as they worked on their bridges.
Because we got through all of the questions in about 15 minutes, we were able to have time to hold our competition.
If you want some fun review ideas, make sure to check out my other CC weeks!
Supplies needed for review:
- supplies for science
