Here is everything that I did with my Masters class for week 22 in cycle 2 of Classical Conversations!

CC Cycle 2 Week 22 Memory Work
CC Cycle 2 Week 22 Timeline
This week, we tried something again we did earlier in the year but was a struggle for some reason.
The game is called Timeline Shuffle.
To play:
- have the students sit in a circle
- if you have an 8th student, have one student be the die roller, if you have less than 7, roll the die yourself as the tutor
- hand out the cards randomly to the students & tell them that when the timeline song is played (or they sing it) they have to raise up the card that pertains to that part of the song – i.e. whoever has North Atlantic Treaty Organization will raise their card while that part is sung aloud
- listen to the timeline section one time & have students raise their card(s) when appropriate
- the person with the die throws the die. Then, cards rotate that many times to the right. For instance, a 3 is rolled. Students will pass a card 3 times to their right so they have a new card.
- repeat for all 7 repetitions
It went better this time but for some reason my students are still struggling with the concept of the game.
It is a simple premise and seems popular with other CC classes so give it a try!
Supplies needed for Timeline:
- 7 Timeline cards pertaining to the week
- one die
Approximate time it takes for Timeline: 5 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 22 Math
This week for math, I used the same song as last week. It continues for the rest of the year in math!
Here is the video to the song:
We saved time this week and just sang the song. I first read the math law, then introduced the song, and then had them sing it with me for the remaining 5 repetitions.
Supplies needed for Math:
- none
Approximate time it takes: 3 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 22 History
My class loves playing Hot or Cold for history so we have done it almost every week since I introduced it week 3.
To play Hot or Cold, listen to the history song one time all together.
Then, show the class the item you will be hiding.
This week, we hid a Jenga piece for the “fall” of communism.
Have one parent bring the chosen student outside into the hallway while the rest of the class chooses a place to hide the item.
Once hidden (tip – only give them 30 seconds so it’s not a big time suck), invite the student back in. Have the class sing the history song loudly if the student is close to finding the object and quietly if the student is farther from the object.
The student has six repetitions to find it. If they find it in time, they win, if not, the class wins. If the student finds it before six repetitions are over, have everyone sing or say the history song as fast as they can for the remaining repetitions.
Supplies needed to play Hot or Cold:
- object to hide – I used a Jenga piece
- timer – if students are likely to be indecisive on where to hide the object, set a 30 second timer (or just count out loud to 30)
Approximate time it takes to play Hot or Cold: 5 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 22 Latin
I reminded the class that a way to remember the perfect tense is with the sentence:
London bridge is falling down because the engineers couldn’t make the bridge pluperfect. Daffy Duck gasps for air as the bridge falls.
I got the sentence idea from Joys of a CC Mom on YouTube. I added in Daffy Duck because pluperfect sounds like Daffy Duck trying to say the word perfect.
Here is the video I referenced:
This week we simply sang through the song 7x since this was our 4th time covering it for the year, not including all the times we have covered it during review.
Supplies needed for Latin: None
Approximate time needed for Latin: 2 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 22 Science
I found these hand motions for a quick & memorable way to do science grammar this week.
Here is the YouTube video:
I first read the new grammar and then I read it with the hand motions. For repetitions 3-7, I had the class read and do the hand motions with me.
Supplies needed for science:
- None
Approximate time needed for science: 2 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 22 English
This week I found a catchy video on YouTube by Wendy Westerfield that covers weeks 21 and 22. She has a lot of fun English grammar videos.
This song is to the tune of When the Saints Go Marching.
Here is the song:
Having the Masters class, the majority of them are in the Essentials program which has already covered FANBOYS for the year.
I didn’t even ask the class to do this but they voluntarily came up and demonstrated what they had been learning in Essentials for FANBOYS.
I still had the song for them to learn, especially since a couple of the students are not in Essentials.
If you want an activity, you could have them fold paper fans quickly and fan themselves as they sing.
Supplies needed for English:
- None
Approximate time needed for English – 4 minutes
CC Cycle 2 Week 22 Geography
This week I found a catchy song by CC Happy Mom on YouTube based off of a popular Beach Boys song. The class really liked this one!
Here is the video:
To get our repetitions in, this is what I did:
- I read the components of the Oceania
- I read and had them trace the locations on their maps
- I introduced the song to them
- I had the class sing the song with me as we pointed to the countries for repetitions 4, 5, and 6
- Singing all together
- Singing all together
- Questions
Here are the review questions I asked for Oceania:
- What continent are Indonesia and Papua New Guinea on? (Asia)
- Is Australia a continent or a country? (Continent according to CC curriculum but could be debated)
- Which ocean is the Great Barrier Reef in? (Pacific)
- What continent is New Zealand on? (Again, up for debate, but CC says Australia)
Supplies needed for geography:
- dry erase map for each student
- dry erase marker for each student
- eraser for each student
Approximate time needed for geography: 6 minutes

CC Cycle 2 Week 22 Composers & Orchestra
This week was very simple again. I brought in my Classical Music for Dummies book to read one of the bios from the book about Dvorak. I didn’t read the whole section, just chose what seemed appropriate.
I had the class lay down on the floor in a dark room for the first repetition. Everyone was great about spreading out – I have a large classroom which helps – so this alone aided in having a quiet and focused classroom.
I also bring in my bluetooth speaker.
Before the second repetition, I walked the class through the timeline showing when instruments were introduced in the song.
When we listened the second time through, I told them beforehand to try to follow along themselves and see if they can correctly guess when everything is happening (but to themselves to foster a quiet atmosphere).
You can find the songs for this unit at the Classical Music for Dummies website. I recommend downloading them to your phone’s files rather than trying to connect to WiFi or use your data at your CC facility.
Supplies needed for Composers:
- bluetooth speaker – optional, but great for larger rooms
- Classical Music for Dummies book (to create a quick intro)
- Classical Music for Dummies songs (#6) downloaded to your phone
CC Cycle 2 Week 22 Science Experiment
For science this week we made catapults!
This was a fun science project.
I used the Ezine print out as my prompt and had the class make the catapults.
My class voted to use review time to also make the catapults so I just made sure to read the entire Ezine script during the 30 minute science time. We did the competition at the end of review.
This gave my class time to make a prototype, discuss their findings (they worked in pairs) and then make any adjustments before the final competition.
Supplies needed for science:
- popsicle sticks
- spoons
- something to catapult – we used ping pong balls
CC Cycle 2 Week 22 Review
Review was super quick, as I simply asked them questions as they worked on their catapults.
Because we got through all of the questions in about 15 minutes, we were able to have time to hold our competition.
If you want some fun review ideas, make sure to check out my other CC weeks!
Supplies needed for review:
- supplies for science
