Here is everything that I plan to do for Classical Conversations CC Cycle 3 Week 6 in my Masters class!
CC Cycle 3 Week 6 Memory Work
CC Cycle 3 Week 6 Timeline

This week for timeline, I plan for us to use mini finger puppet hands to stack the Timeline cards.
Since I have 8 students in my class, I will likely have the first student go before we sing the Timeline song.
I then have each student take their turn at trying to stack all 7 Timeline cards on top of each other using the mini hands.
They will need to stack them in order. You can choose the difficulty level – the last first or the first last.
Last first will challenge their thinking and also make the stack in order from top to bottom.
Supplies needed:
- 7 Timeline cards pertaining to the week
- Two mini hand finger puppets
Approximate time it takes to play: 5 minutes
CC Cycle 3 Week 6 Math
For the Masters class, I like to do minute-to-win it type of games or mathercise.
This week, I plan to do Yahtzee.
This game works best for a class of seven students or less. If you have eight students, have the first two students go at the same time, then one student at a time after that so that there are only seven repetitions.
To play Yahtzee, give one student (or two, see note above) five dice. Have the rest of the class recite the math fact one time through while the person with the dice plays.
The student with the dice needs to roll for all of the same number on the dice. We will recite the 11s first, so roll for 1s.
Say they roll 5 dice, and they get two 1s. They keep the two 1s up, pick up the remaining 3, and keep trying for 1s.
You can make it more difficult by adding more dice or just see how many Yahtzees they can get.
The person stacking does not do the recitation.
Continue playing with each student and see who can get a Yahtzee!
Play again for the 12s, rolling for 2s this time.
Supplies needed to play Yahtzee:
- five dice
Approximate time it takes to play Yahtzee: 6 minutes
CC Cycle 3 Week 6 History
Last year my class loved playing Hot or Cold for history and since I have mostly the same class, I decided I’ll do it again this year.
If they decide they are over it, I’ll come up with something else and update these plans as I go!
To play Hot or Cold, listen to the history song one time all together.
Then, show the class the item you will be hiding.
This week, I plan to bring in something red/white/blue.

Have one parent bring one student outside into the hallway while the rest of the class chooses a place to hide the item.
Once hidden (tip – only give them 30 seconds so it’s not a big time suck), invite the student back in. Have the class sing the history song loudly if the student is close to finding the object and quietly if the student is farther from the object.
The student has six repetitions to find it. If they find it in time, they win, if not, the class wins.
If the student finds it before six repetitions are over, have everyone sing or say the history song as fast as they can for the remaining repetitions.
Supplies needed to play Hot or Cold:
- object to hide – I plan to use something red/white/blue
Approximate time it takes to play Hot or Cold: 5 minutes
CC Cycle 3 Week 6 Latin
This week, I plan to do a song and hand motions by Driven By Grace.
This song will continue for all of the Latin nouns, weeks 6-8, but here is the video for just this week’s grammar.
To get in the 7 repetitions:
- Read all of the grammar for correct pronunciation
- Read again for correct pronunciation
- Introduce the hand motions
- Do the hand motions together
- Introduce the song with hand motions
- Do the song and hand motions all together for two repetitions.
Supplies needed for Latin:
- none
Approximate time needed for Latin: 3 minutes
CC Cycle 3 Week 6 Science
This week I plan to introduce a song by Erik Fialkoff which goes to the tune of Michael Jackson’s Beat It.
To get in the 7 repetitions:
- First read the grammar.
- Have everyone read the grammar together.
- Introduce the song.
- All sing for four repetitions.
Supplies needed for science: None
Approximate time needed for science: 3 minutes
CC Cycle 3 Week 6 English
This week we will use the hand motions we have learned so far to recite the different verb tenses for “to do.”
Here is the song and hand motions that I will use by Driven By Grace which goes to the tune of If You’re Happy and You Know it:
If the song is just too much on top of the hand movements, we might just chant it. I’ll see what the class wants to do/can handle given our quick time frame!
Here are the 7 repetitions:
- Read the grammar.
- Introduce the hand motions for each part.
- All practice the hand motions for each part.
- Introduce the song (or do a chant) while doing the hand motion.
- Have the students sing with me (or do a chant) and do the hand motion for the remaining 3 repetitions.
Supplies needed for English: none
Approximate time needed for English – 4 minutes
CC Cycle 3 Week 6 Geography
This year we’ve been trying something new in my Masters class.
Instead of tracing maps, I want to challenge my class to draw the US, week by week.
My director gives us large copies of the CC maps, one for each student. Last year, the students traced the maps.
I picked up some 11×8.5 paper. I plan for each student to keep their map all year (in a folder I will take home each week) and to build on the map each week.
Here is what I plan to do to get our seven repetitions in:
1. Read the states and capitals for the week while the students put their names on their papers.
2 & 3. Have the students draw just the states we are doing this week, with their dots for capitals, on their papers while I read the states and capitals 2x through.
4. Show me where _____ is… (all 5 locations)
5. Tell me what this is… (all 5 locations) as I point to my map on my board.
6 & 7. Everyone reads all the states & capitals while passing their maps back to me to put away for next week.
Supplies needed for geography:
- large map for each student
- 14×8.5 paper for each student
- pencil for each student
- optional – Draw the USA by Kristin J. Draeger to reference if students are stuck – she blobs the shapes of each state to make it easy to draw
Approximate time needed for geography: 5 minutes
CC Cycle 3 Week 6 Fine Arts
This week for fine arts we will be doing our final project, incorporating everything we have learned about fine arts the past five weeks.
To start, I will review all of the past five skills we have learned.
For the activity, I will show a photo of the Lincoln Memorial with the reflecting pool.
This image allows us to find:
- OiLS for week 1
- Symmetry (the Lincoln Memorial) for week 2
- Upside down (the reflection in the pool) for week 3
- Abstract (clouds/trees) for week 4
- Perspective (Lincoln Memorial in background & pool in foreground) for week 5
I plan to have students find each of these things before we start drawing to set them up for success.
They can tackle the photo however they want, assuming they will use the skills learned.
They can also keep the photo detailed or less detailed.
Supplies needed for week 6 fine arts:
- Paper for each student
- Pencil for each student
- Ruler for each student
- Colored pencils/markers/crayons for students to share if time allows
- Printed photo of the Lincoln Memorial with a reflection in the pool
CC Cycle 3 Week 6 Presentations
This year, I plan to have a skill of focus each week.
For the sixth week, I plan to have the Masters focus on volume.
I will remind the class before the first presentation that we want to speak loud enough for everyone to hear but not too loudly that they are heard outside of the classroom.
I will also remind them to keep their faces up and not have their chins tucked which often times leads to mumbling.
At the end of their presentation, I will ask the class to give feedback on the volume.
Thumbs up for good, hands cupping ears toward the speaker if it was too quiet, and pointer fingers pointing to ears if too loud.
Of course, the class isn’t likely to all give the same answer but we can see the overall opinion.
You may need to remind your class to only give the feedback at the end of the presentation, not during, as that can be distracting.
CC Cycle 3 Week 6 Science
This week is Van Cleave’s experiment #78, #79, and #80.
All of these experiments are very quick so make sure to spend lots of time going through CC’s 15 tools of learning.
I plan to open the discussion by asking a couple questions:
- What is your favorite ride at the fair?
- Have you ever been hurt on a ride or sore afterwards from the seatbelt or bar?
We will talk about skin sensitivity, dizziness, and coordination in these science experiments this week.
I’ll go through the scientific method with them as usual.
I will likely follow the script from my director this year since there is so much to remember.
(Here is the script from my director by Tiffany Pena)
Supplies needed for hands-on science:
- Van Cleave’s 201 Awesome, Magical, Bizarre, and Incredible Experiments
- Pencils
- Tape
CC Cycle 3 Week 6 Review
For review this week, we will be playing Pie Face, which is a class favorite.
I do have a few students who don’t like playing, but I think they at least enjoy seeing if their classmates get whipped cream in their face.
If you aren’t familiar with the game, you place a dollop of whipped cream onto the game’s mechanical hand.
Players spin to see how many cranks they need to move the mechanical hand.
The mechanical hand flings the whipped cream into the player’s face at random times. Sometimes it is the first crank, sometimes it takes ten or more.
I like to play this in the church’s kitchen so clean up is easy but you can also play outside and have some wet paper towels prepared.
Supplies needed for Pie Face:
- Pie Face game
- whipped cream
- wet paper towels or face wipes
