Here is everything that I plan to do with my Masters class for week 8 in cycle 3 of Classical Conversations!
CC Cycle 3 Week 8 Memory Work
CC Cycle 3 Week 8 Timeline

This week for timeline, I plan for us to shoot the Timeline cards with a plastic bow and arrow.
I remove the cards that have been hit as an extra challenge to remember what is missing with each singing repetition.
Supplies needed to play Bow and Arrow:
- 7 Timeline cards pertaining to the week
- Plastic bow and arrow set
Approximate time it takes to play Bow and Arrow: 5 minutes
CC Cycle 3 Week 8 Math
Yay for only one times table this week! Since I have the Masters class we say the entire equation.
This week, I plan to do a mathercise activity. It is only the 14s so we won’t get as tired as mathercise was when we had two times tables.
I will likely keep it simple with just jumping with each circled repetition.
To play:
- Chant the 14s together as a class.
- Have the first student pick out one or two equations to circle. The circled equations are our cue to jump when we chant that equation.
- Chant the 14s again, making sure to jump at the circled equations.
- Ask the next student to pick one or two to circle and repeat.
Supplies needed for mathercise:
- marker or dry erase marker to circle equations
Approximate time it takes: 4 minutes
CC Cycle 3 Week 8 History
As usual, we will play Hot or Cold.
To play Hot or Cold, listen to the history song one time all together. Then, show the class the item you will be hiding.
This week, we will hide something that is red/white/blue. I basically just saved a bunch of 4th of July party favor type items to cycle through this year.
Have one parent bring the chosen student outside into the hallway while the rest of the class chooses a place to hide the item.
Once hidden (tip – only give them 30 seconds so it’s not a big time suck), invite the student back in. Have the class sing the history song loudly if the student is close to finding the object and quietly if the student is farther from the object.
The student has six repetitions to find it. If they find it in time, they win, if not, the class wins. If the student finds in before six repetitions are over, have everyone sing or say the history song as fast as they can for the remaining repetitions.
Supplies needed to play Hot or Cold:
- Object to hide
Approximate time it takes to play Hot or Cold: 5 minutes
CC Cycle 3 Week 8 Latin
This week, I plan to do a song and hand motions by Driven By Grace.
This song will continue for all of the Latin nouns, weeks 6-8, but here is the video for just this week’s grammar.
To get in the 7 repetitions:
- Read all of the grammar for correct pronunciation
- Read again for correct pronunciation
- Introduce the hand motions
- Do the hand motions together
- Introduce the song with hand motions
- Do the song and hand motions all together for two repetitions.
Supplies needed for Latin:
- none
Approximate time needed for Latin: 3 minutes
CC Cycle 3 Week 8 Science
This week I plan to introduce a song by Jessie Sharp on YouTube.
The song goes to the tune of Joy Joy Joy Joy.
Here is the order I presented science to get all seven repetitions in:
- Read the question and say the answer, making sure to say “Six parts of the circulatory system are…”
- Read the question and have the class answer
- Introduce the song to the class
- Sing the song with the class
- Sing the song all together
- Sing all
- Sing all
Supplies needed for science: None
Approximate time needed for science: 4 minutes
CC Cycle 3 Week 8 English
This week we will use the hand motions we have learned so far to recite the different verb tenses for “to raise.”
Here is the song and hand motions that I will use by Driven By Grace which goes to the tune of If You’re Happy and You Know it:
If the song is just too much on top of the hand movements, we might just chant it. I’ll see what the class wants to do/can handle given our quick time frame!
Here are the 7 repetitions:
- Read the grammar.
- Introduce the hand motions for each part.
- All practice the hand motions for each part.
- Introduce the song (or do a chant) while doing the hand motion.
- Have the students sing with me (or do a chant) and do the hand motion for the remaining 3 repetitions.
Supplies needed for English: none
Approximate time needed for English – 4 minutes
CC Cycle 3 Week 8 Geography
This year we’ve been trying something new in my Masters class.
Instead of tracing maps, I want to challenge my class to draw the US, week by week.
My director gives us large copies of the CC maps, one for each student. Last year, the students traced the maps.
I picked up some 11×8.5 paper. I plan for each student to keep their map all year (in a folder I will take home each week) and to build on the map each week.
Here is what I plan to do to get our seven repetitions in:
1. Read the states and capitals for the week while the students put their names on their papers.
2 & 3. Have the students draw just the states we are doing this week, with their dots for capitals, on their papers while I read the states and capitals 2x through.
4. Show me where _____ is… (all 5 locations)
5. Tell me what this is… (all 5 locations) as I point to my map on my board.
6 & 7. Everyone reads all the states & capitals while passing their maps back to me to put away for next week.
Supplies needed for geography:
- large map for each student
- 14×8.5 paper for each student
- pencil for each student
- optional – Draw the USA by Kristin J. Draeger to reference if students are stuck – she blobs the shapes of each state to make it easy to draw
Approximate time needed for geography: 5 minutes
CC Cycle 3 Week 8 Tin Whistle
I plan to start tin whistle by having everyone sing Yankee Doodle together. I will make sure to remind them to sing all together with the same speed and start time.
I plan to define Dynamics as how soft or loud you play.
I plan to have the students sing Yankee Doodle as soft as they can for pianissimo.
Then, sing the song as loud as possible WITHOUT yelling for fortissimo.
Last year I made notecards with pp, p, mp, mf, f, ff, and > & <.
I will introduce all of the definitions for these symbols and arrange them in order from softest to loudest for the students to see.
I then plan to play a game similar to Heads Up:
- Tape one card on each student’s forehead, making sure they can’t see their own notecard.
- Inform them they have two minutes to put themselves in order from quietest to loudest.
- They must sing Yankee Doodle at the dynamic level to each other in order to place themselves.
If the student sees another student with crescendo, for example, they would start singing quietly and then get louder. The student being sung to should then realize what their card is and place themselves appropriately.
I then plan to have the students practice the first couple bars of Yankee Doodle on their tin whistles.
If we can get through the notes fine, we will try playing in different dynamics.
Supplies needed for week 8 tin whistle:
- each student needs to bring their tin whistle (give students a pencil to finger along if they forgot their whistle at home)
- notecards for pp, p, mp, mf, f, ff, >, and <
- tape
CC Cycle 3 Week 8 Science
This week we will continue our anatomy study.
We will tackle the cells, spleen, pancreas, and gallbladder this week.
Encourage the students to color different body parts at different times so not everyone will need a red pencil for the heart at the same time, for example.
I plan to inform everyone to label all of their parts with their names so I can keep everything together in my expandable file folder.
I will likely follow the script from my director this year since she outlines it nicely with Naming, Attending, Memorizing, and Expressing.
(Here is the script from my director by Tiffany Pena)
But I also plan to have the students review science grammar from what we already know.
The My Body book also has good information in it for teaching on each body part.
Supplies needed for hands-on science:
- My Body copies of the cells, spleen, pancreas, and gallbladder
- Pencils
- Scissors
- Colored pencils, crayons, or markers
CC Cycle 3 Week 8 Presentations
This year, I plan to have a skill of focus each week.
For the seventh week, I plan to have the Masters focus on body language.
I will remind the class before the first presentation that we want to:
- keep our bodies still, unless using hands to expressively speak to our audience
- stand tall
- keep head up and facing audience
- friendly face
At the end of their presentation, I will ask the class to give feedback on the body language.
Thumbs up for good overall and thumbs down for distracting body language.
Of course, the class isn’t likely to all give the same answer but we can see the overall opinion.
You may need to remind your class to only give the feedback at the end of the presentation, not during, as that can be distracting.
CC Cycle 3 Week 8 Review
For review this week, I plan to have the class play Buried Treasure.
This game is good for competitions as only one student answers the review question. If they get it wrong/don’t know it, the class will need to answer instead.
I found the game on CCConnected here: https://forums.ccconnected.com/t/fnd-all-cycles-review-game-files-brittany-gossett/60091 (Make sure you are signed into CCConnected first.)
The game creator recommends playing with a sheet, which sounds so fun and reminiscent of the rainbow parachute I played with in elementary school.
@moreforsports Gave me chills 🙌 (Piper burke) #school #class #graduation #rainbowparachute #gymteacher #kids #foryou ♬ snowfall – Øneheart & reidenshi
However nostalgic this was, I imagine this game being a bit to chaotic running under a sheet.
So, I have cut out the gems (doubled because I wanted 7 gems for each subject), laminated them, and placed them in a small cardboard box.
I put cut up pieces of brown yarn over it to be the sand or dirt they are digging through.
My own kids loved cutting out the yarn so that was a win, too.
The students will need to stick their hands into the “dirt” yarn and pull out one hidden gem.
You can either pick the week or you can do what I did: write numbers 2-8 on each gem with wet erase marker.

So if the student pulls out a blue math gem with the number 2 on it, they need to tell me week 2’s math.
For time’s sake on the math portion, I plan to just ask the students “what is 14X3?” for example.
I also plan to keep track of how many questions each student gets right and the winner will get to pick a prize.
Supplies needed for Buried Treasure:
- Cut out gems from the file above, doubled
- Wet erase marker
- Small box
- Brown yarn cut into small pieces
